#ITRIView As the electronic vehicle market expands, demand for rechargeable batteries has increased. However, lithium-ion batteries have problems including raw material scarcity and environmental and social problems. Dr. Mark Lu, a senior researcher at ITRI, believes that moving towards “Cobalt-free” batteries that deploy fewer harmful substances would bring further business opportunities to Taiwan. Accordingly, Taiwanese companies are already working on silicon-anode, solid-state electrolyte batteries (SSB) and other revolutionary materials.
